Heart Health Program
Did you know that, high cholesterol and high blood pressure affect millions of people in the United States and both can have serious health consequences if not adequately controlled? The good news is that for most people, both high blood pressure and high cholesterol are risk factors that can be modified through healthy
lifestyle choices and medications, if needed.
-
A registered nurse will help you to learn the difference between "good" and "bad" cholesterol, triglycerides, and the roles they all play in the body. This class includes a lipid panel that will be gone over with you individually.
-
A registered nurse will help you to learn about the disease processes, and how knowledge, exercise, stress reduction, and medications can significantly help to reduce complications and improve your overall health.
-
Developing a personalized plan to include regular physical activity, strengthening your social support system, and strategies to deal with stress will also be covered.
-
With the help of a registered dietitian, develop a plan to follow the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet, and understand how to modify the fats in your diet to lower your cholesterol levels.
-
Evaluate your personal eating habits, identify ways you can improve your diet through smart shopping, label reading, and wise food preparation. Includes a hands-on grocery store tour.
